Let"s be honest this year has been full of stinkers. It Chapter 2 was a near three hour comedy. Terminator Dark Fate bombed because it told the same story. The Irishman was painfully boring and overrated. Even Joker was overhyped, I liked it a lot but I don"t think it"s really a classic. But here comes Knives Out one of the best murder mystery comedies in recent memory.
Pros: for one, it"s very well shot. On a technical aspect the camera work and the way it"s shot is great. The acting is superb nobody was bad in this movie not even Daniel Craig, his character was supposed to be over the top so I get the complaints about his southern accent but I thought he was great. The story was very clever, full of twists and turns that just left me guessing until the end. The small things such as the immigration theme and the vomiting all come into play and are very necessary to the plot. It"s a typical murder mystery where you"re trying to find the real killer along with the detectives. The dialogue was sharp and witty, very witty. I get it Rian Johnson ruined Star Wars for some, get over it he made one bad movie, he"s really an awesome filmmaker. Don"t hate this movie because it was made by a guy that ruined your franchise.
Cons: I guess the social commentary wasn"t necessary, I mean Hollywood just loves social commentary in almost everything. It gets annoying but it wasn"t that bad, it didn"t ruin the movie at all. In fact it was crucial to the plot. The southern accent by Daniel Craig was also hard to get used to at first, but when you learn his character is supposed to be over the top you get over it and you can"t help but love his character.
Best movie of 2019 and probably one of the best movies I"ve seen in theaters in a long time. It was fun, suspenseful, hilarious and clever. Please see this.

Instead of getting laid, the goal of Jacob Tremblay"s character is to kiss a girl he likes at a house party, almost the same motivation as Jonah Hill"s character in "Superbad." The other two members of the "Bean Bag Boys" have different goals compared to Tremblay"s character, but in the end they are all still trying to go to a party, and the entire movie is as vulgar as the producers could possibly make it.
"Good Boys" has a very heavy theme of the need to fit in or be accepted by your peers in subtle ways. Tremblay"s character, Max, does not really need to fit in since he is already accepted by the "popular" kids in his grade, but he does not know how to kiss yet, and he wants to be ready to do it correctly in front of other people. His friend Lucas has identity issues throughout the movie after Lucas learns that his parents are about to go through a divorce. This information is useful to set up quite a few jokes within the movie, but at the same time it is a serious issue that Lucas does not know how he is going to fit in with his two friends who have no idea what it is like to have divorced parents. Thor, the last "Bean Bag Boy, is a joy to watch as he tries to prove his manhood time and time again, although at one point this means he has to lie about his interests. Thor is a young boy with a true gift for singing, but when the popular kids see him standing next to the audition sheet for the school musical, he crosses his name out and says someone else put his name down to mess with him. He is also cursed with the nickname "sippy-cup" to which he replies "it"s a juicebox" which is such a great line in the movie.
While the movie has good intentions with the three boys" character arcs, Good Boys" just keeps pounding it into the audience"s heads that it"s a very R-rated movie involving tweens. There are constant jokes of the main characters having a poor understanding of certain sexual topics, including but not limited to Real Dolls, tampons, beads (they think it"s pronounced "uh-nahl" and the list goes on. They also have a poor understanding of drugs, thinking that "molly" is the name of a girl when two older girls are asking for their drugs back. They keep hitting the same few jokes into your head throughout the movie, and it becomes a little tiresome. However, some unique humor does save the film from being monotonous - the funniest running gag in the movie has to be that Lucas for some reason always has to be brutally honest, even if it means getting in the worst type of trouble.
"Good Boys" is not a terrible comedy, but the humor could be more original and less repetitive than simply restating "these kids do not know about sex" over and over again. It is a joy to watch Lucas and Thor while Max, the "main character" is actually pretty boring (and to think, he is the only child actor who has already made a name for himself in this movie.

Normally I post these little reviews a few hours or minutes after I"ve seen a film, but Portrait de la jeune fille en feu absolutely blew me away, and I was lost for words, and really am still unsure if I can find the proper words for this thing here. Anyway, all I can say is that I cannot find a flaw with this movie and that I was always hooked, mesmerized, and at times completely shocked by how genius and effortlessly powerful it is. The performances are beautiful, their chemistry is through the roof, and the dialogue just so wonderfully written. Then of course it"s all directed masterfully and has equally brilliant cinematography. Really, all of it is just brilliant and my respect for the film will only grow with rewatches. Also, let me tell you, the way it ends is one of the most powerful and creative imaginable. Stunning.

Even single shot is fantastic, the colour choices were amazing, there is a great balance between the primary colors and the red and green dresses of the protagonists really bring a lot of power and life to the movie. The wide shots of the sea are gorgeous and the sound design is so well-done, The sound of the waves and the footsteps add so much to the experience. The camera work is brilliant. The way they director has set the camera in the drawing sequences is really clever and aesthetically nice, as it is maintained in the whole film. The whole film has a great personality and atmosphere, one that made it really interesting to watch and I definitely want to rematch it.
The actresses did a really great job. Their expressions and reactions feel so real and there is the protagonist"s eyes are gorgeous and so captivating, It is not a plot-oriented film, but the plot actually manages to be really good, though it is probably the films weakest element,
The dialogues, especially during the first half, were so cleverly written and brought out both emotion and things to thing about, It is a film that is basically a love story, but manages to talk about the position of women during that particular are, how their whole life was designed by others so they want to meet other ideas and emotions, like how does music feel or what is love, what is freedom, is freedom a state of living that we can have forever?

My only bag with the film would be that the actual story is kind of a ripoff of other films that talk about love? For instance, I felt that it actually had the same story with Call me by your Name, a film which I really really love. Two strangers meet and fall in love, they keep it as a secret and time is the story"s enemy. There is an actual scene where the characters say they lost time and should have been together earlier and there is a similar piece of dialogue in CMBYN, so I felt that it was not such a breathtaking story, although i was never really bored and the relationship between the character was explored nicely.

There are a lot of beautiful shots and scenes in the film, one of them is in the poster and really brought a sense of joy to my heart, there is a scene where the characters are playing cards and it feels so real and fun, the painting scenes were lovely and the last scene is actually perfect and the acting in this scene is phenomenal.
Watch this film, it has a beautiful scenery and tone and I give it an 8/10
